Period Apartment Property Photography Bishop’s Stortford

Built in 1714 this charming apartment in the centre of Bishop’s Stortford has been beautifully modernised, while retaining its original period features.

From a photography point of view there was plenty on offer to get me excited, while offering a great opportunity for me to flex my technical muscles.

The main bedroom had some lovely coloured walls, which I had to avoid bouncing my lights off, so I had to deploy two umbrellas to ensure I got accurate colours. Extra attention was given to the fireplace in the bottom right hand corner, adding an extra light to ensure it did not vanish into shadow. The same was done to the hallway as I like an open door as the extra space gives great value to the shot.

Moving on to the bedroom ensuite, a beautiful room, I very much enjoyed the bath which is the showpiece of the room but I also enjoyed the texture of the shower wall behind it. A very modern feel in a property that ís over 300 years old. Had to be careful with my lighting as there were so many reflective surfaces to catch me out.

Downstairs has this amazing reception room, it does have a beautiful fireplace, which I captured in another shot, but for me, this image is all about the lovely parquet floor. Again I like to have doors open to show how a property flows together, so I had to add lighting to the dining room and kitchen as well as having a brighter light coming in from the right, letting you know there ís another door beyond the fireplace.

Moving on to the toughest room technically. My only natural light was coming in from this one window, so to get this room looking good, I had seven lights, two umbrellas and one reflector to get this done. Tough to get the flow of light looking correct as the shadows have to be going away from the window, otherwise it looks a bit odd especially with the beams. A great looking room, hopefully I’ve done it justice.

Finally the kitchen, which had some great beams on show. I had to make sure that my chairs were nicely in a row, it bothers me if they are all doing different things in different directions. A really bright room with lovely light throughout.

This apartment property is coming onto the market with Russell Property who are based in Bishop Stortford.
